E! News host, Giuliana Rancic, gets a behind the scenes look at the new Badgley Mischka collection from designers, Mark and James.
One of my favorite shows to cover and attend each season is the Badgley Mischka show. Every look that comes down that runway is breathtaking and luxurious and each dress is unknowingly gearing up for a red carpet moment. I had the good fortune of not only getting to cover the show this season, but also get to work with E! News's Giuliana Rancic, who was such a delight. Giuliana interviewed the designers backstage before their show where they talked about their collection inspiration and showed off some of their favorite looks.
Not only does this dress jingle, but it also speaks. It's saying, "Who's wearing me to the Oscars?"
This season was all about the gold. The designers were inspired by the opulence of Vienna and it was reflected in the rich floral brocade ball gowns and fur hats and shawls spotted on the runway. The 50's silhouette, which has been a recurrent trend this season, also graced many of the pieces in the collection. And leopard print, like on this one shoulder belted gown, made a cameo in the mostly sparkly gold brigade. Though largely intricate and seemingly heavy, the fabrics used for some of the pieces were so light, the designers referred to them as weightless, like if the models were floating on air. Because at the end of the day, what the Badgley Mischka woman wants is comfortable luxury.
Before running to the next show, I was in the mood for some fashion fun. Anyone who has seen an award show coverage on E!, is very familiar with the Glam Cam 360' and E! had an exact replica built at the Lincoln Center tents for every fashionista's amusement, me included. I was rocking an ensemble from Club Monaco and was dying for my moment in front of the Glam Cam. Some confetti later, and here's what we got!
After my 15 minutes (more like 5 seconds) of fame, we jetted to the Diesel Black Gold show on 34th street. Rich Kids of Beverly Hills star and Magic Johnson's son, EJ Johnson, was our talent for the show. He interviewed supermodel Coco Rocha who was looking androgynously fierce in her skinny pants and leather jacket, which are some of the trends seen in the Diesel Black Gold collection.
Designer Andreas Melbostad had the idea of astronaut suits, space travel and fantasy. And it was evident in the shiny leather and metallic discs that adorned some of the pieces we saw on the runway. The zippers and studs on the mostly black pieces added an undertone of toughness and street.
